Public Services

>Our public services department employs approximately 20 student workers per semester. In addition to library-specific training, positions in circulation and interlibrary loan give students the opportunity to build skills essential to success in future careers. Student employees at the library develop teamwork, critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, communication, organization, research, and technology skills while working with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and community members. Our staff checked out 10,568 items in the last year.

RapidILL

In January, our Interlibrary Loan department joined the Rapid ILL system. This system streamlines the process of sending and receiving articles between libraries. It enabled us to get 39% more articles for our students and faculty 67% faster on average compared to the previous year.

Sending articles to other libraries became quicker as well. We sent out 29% more articles 33% faster on average compared to the previous year.

Equipment Checkout

Our equipment collection was updated with new camcorders, DSLR cameras, tripods, and DVD drives. Half of our student and faculty laptops were replaced with newer models and some new Mac laptops arrived. We check out about 2,000 equipment items a year. Laptops are by far the most popular item, making up 46% of our equipment checkouts. This popular collection provides access for our students, faculty and staff to items that they might not purchase on their own, but are useful for personal, professional, and academic use.
