Search “vocational guidance” OR occupation* OR career* and name of career

For information about careers in general try searching “vocational guidance” OR “occupations” in the Subject field.

For more efficient searching:

Quotation marks around a phrase will insure the keywords are searched as a phrase, e.g. "vocational guidance."

An asterisk expands a search term to include all forms of word, e.g., teach* = teacher, teaching, teachable, etc.

Books at Our Campus & Others

  1. To just find Sheboygan Campus books, use the Library option in the left column after doing a search. Click "UW-Green Bay at Sheboygan Library."
    • Write down the Call Number and ask library staff to get the book.
  2. OR: Click on "Get It" to order a book from a different library.
    • Sign in with your campus username and password
    • Select “UWGB Libraries Request” if available. If not, click “UW Request.”
    • Make sure the desired Pickup Location is filled-in, then click "Request."

Reference Books (and Online Version) for Careers

Below are two of the most well-known reference book titles on career information.  The first one is also freely-available as an online website (just click the link).

If you would like to use these printed books, please ask library staff (or email and they will make a copy for you of the information for your specific career.  Due to COVID safety protocols, these frequently-used titles are being kept at the desk for staff contact only.

  • Occupational Outlook Handbook (online and print) - Provides detailed information about specific careers, including required education and training, statutory or licensure requirements, job prospects, a summary of job duties and working conditions, earnings and advancement.  Published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.   Publication Date: 2020
  • Encyclopedia of Careers and Vocational Guidance, 15th edition (print only) - Provides in-depth analysis of jobs and job duties.   Publication Date: 2011
