There are many ways to make a zine and there is no right or wrong way to do it. Should you choose to create a digital zine, below you will find some tips to get you started.

Digital Zine Makers

Electric Zine Maker

Heralded by many zine makers as the digital zine maker that upholds the punk and grunge feel of making zines. The software is reminiscent of early 2000s, yet has many functionalities for creative exploration.

Canva
*This site requires you to make a free account*
Canva is a free graphic design platform. There are several templates to choose from. Below is a tutorial to get started.

Finding Images

It's important to find images that have either Creative Commons licenses or no copyright restrictions, such as Public Domain licenses. Below are some options to enhance your zine.

Smithsonian Open Access
Millions of images that can be downloaded, shared, and reused without seeking permission.
Reusable Art
Public domain images of vintage drawings, paintings, and illustrations.
Wikimedia Commons
You will need to check each photo's license in determining whether you need to provide attribution. To search for images in the public domain, change the license to "no restrictions"
New York Public Library Digital Collections
Over 800,000 digitized items from the NYPL's collection. When using the keyword search bar, click the drop-down for "Search only public domain materials"
