Title: Papers, 1962-1964

Summary: Papers of a Peace Corps volunteer in Tres Marias, Brazil, including diaries, correspondence, a newsletter put out by volunteers, government directives and forms, and a final report.

Author/Creator: Reynolds, Preston

Title: Log book, 1903

Summary: A log book kept by Preston ("Pick") Reynolds of a canoe trip he made with three other Madison, Wis. boys in 1903. The trip began in what is now Wisconsin Dells and proceeded down the Wisconsin River to the Mississippi as far as Rock Island, Ill., and then started up the Rock River. The trip was supposed to continue up the Rock and Yahara Rivers to Madison. Instead, the "4 River Rovers" completed the trip by train from Coloma, Ill. Reynold's companions included "Pucks" Anderson, "Chub" Fowler, and Sid Jackson (later a founder of the Jackson Clinic in Madison). In addition to colorful descriptions of their adventures, Reynolds has illustrated the volume with many pen and ink and wash drawings.

Author/Creator: Ryder, Beverly Ann

Title: Beverly Ann Ryder diaries, 1946-1951

Summary: Original diary and annotated typed transcripts of Beverly Ryder, nee Brehmer from her sixteenth birthday to the age of 21 documenting her day-to-day life as a high school student and young adult in Milwaukee (Wis.). The 5-year diary consists of brief entries with her commentary on boys, classes she is taking in high school, summer jobs, family life, church, and hanging out with friends. In 1948 she attended the Stout Institute (Menomonie, Wis.) and comments on her friends and roommates, social life, classwork (home economics. The last diary entry is March 15, 1951 shortly before her marriage to Bud.

Author/Creator: Schroeder, Anna 1884-1977

Title: Anna Schroeder Papers

Summary: Diaries of Anna Carolina (Elkert) Schroeder spanning 1941-1977. The twenty-four spiral-bound diaries contain daily entries which address the following topics: household chores (including canning, cooking, etc.); farming; gardening; weather; church activities; health issues; visits with family and friends; funerals; social activities; and involvement in the local grange. The diaries include comments and observations on national events such as America's entry into World War II and rationing; politics; and popular movies and television shows. The early diary entries (1941-1948) provide detailed accounts of the life of a rural farm woman in Greenville, Wisconsin. The remaining diary entries describe her life in Appleton, Wisconsin. The collection also includes a diary written by Nellie (Elkert) Melzer from 1926-1929 which details the medical history and treatment of her mother (Wilhemina (Schroeder) Elkert) who suffered from a heart condition.

Author/Creator: Smith Family

Title: Papers, 1847-1990

Summary: Papers documenting the life of multiple generations of a prominent De Pere family; principally Dominicus Jordan, his son-in-law B.F. Smith, grandsons A.G. Wells and Horace J. Smith, granddaughters Addie and “Lizzie” Smith, and great-grandson Robert C. (Pete) Smith. Included in the papers are correspondence from all five of Horace’s children during their service in World War II.

Author/Creator: Smith, Felix T.

Title: Papers, 1931-1940

Summary: Papers of a young man who grew up in Milwaukee, Wis. and later became a merchant seaman. The collection includes a diary (1931, 1935, and 1937-1938) kept by Smith beginning at about age 14, which describes school and leisure time activities, and later, his work and travels as a merchant seaman, including visits to pre-war Germany. There are also letters to his family and friends (1938-1940) describing his work and feelings about his life; postcards (1937-1940), some of which picture ships on which he served; two letters to his mother from a friend in England, 1940, which mention wartime conditions; and memorabilia relating to his service in the merchant marine.

Title: Waldo-Henderson family papers, 1829-1979

Summary: Papers of a prominent family from Green Bay, Wisconsin, primarily documenting the women of that family. Included are numerous photographic snapshots and portraits, original and transcribed copies of diaries, correspondence, clippings, writings, notes, and genealogical material. Among the individuals represented are Morris A. Waldo (1828-1902) and his first wife Ann Eliza Appleton Waldo (1832-1862); her sister Susan Appleton Brown; their daughter Mary Adele Waldo Henderson (1858-1939); and two of her daughters, Anna Laura Henderson Jackson (1858-1957) and Ruth A. Henderson (1890-1980), and her granddaughter Anne Jackson Foster (1911-). Of note are an autobiography and letters of Susan Brown; and radio talks, student papers, and World War II era correspondence of Laura Henderson Jackson exchanged with her daughter Anne Jackson Foster primarily concerning childcare and family matters.

Title: Wisconsin Vietnam Veterans Collection, 1960-1996

Summary: Personal papers of 137 Wisconsin men and women who served in the armed forces during the Vietnam War and which were collected as part of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin's "Voices of the Wisconsin Past" publication project. Selections from the collection have been published as "Voices from Vietnam." The collection includes letters, diaries, reminiscences, maps, military memorabilia, tape-recorded messages, photographs, and videotapes which present a wide range of experiences and a broad sampling of opinions and attitudes from a first-person perspective.

Title: Papers, ca. 1927-2001

Summary: Papers of a Menomonee Falls (Wis.) farm wife, consisting mainly of Zindl’s diaries (1954-2001), which contain commentary on local weather and events, family events, daily chores, and national and international news, as well as clippings, greeting cards, and receipts.
