Resource Sharing

Who can use this service?

Current UW-Green Bay students, staff, faculty, and emeritus faculty may request materials from other libraries. Community patrons are not eligible, but may be able to request items through their local public library.

Does it cost anything?

Most materials are available for free to UW-Green Bay students, staff, faculty, and emeritus faculty. If a fee will be charged to obtain an item, the Library may cancel the request, pay for the charge, or pass the charge along to the patron. Any potential charges will be communicated ahead of time for approval.

What can I request?

Many types of items are available for request, including articles, book chapters, books, CDs and DVDs. However, some items can be more difficult to get than others, including textbooks, conference proceeding papers, dissertations, major motion pictures, best sellers, and study guide/test preparation manuals. Additionally, archival material, rare books, reference works, entire issues of periodicals and e-books are usually not available through resource sharing.

How many requests can I place?

There are no limits to the number of requests that can be placed or filled. However, if numerous quantities of requests are received at the same time, it may slow down processing time.

How can I check on the status of my request?

Log in to My Library Account. Patrons can see a list of active requests and the status of each.

How long does it take for an item to arrive?

For articles or book chapters: Approximately 1-3 business days

For books or other physical materials: Approximately 3-5 business days, though it may be longer if the item is coming from out-of-state

How will I know when my items are available?

A notification will be sent to the UW-Green Bay email address associated with the account.

How long do I have to pick up my items?

Physical materials must be picked up within 10 days of being notified, otherwise they will be sent back to the lending library. The notification email will have the exact date the hold will expire.

Articles and digital book chapters will expire after 30 days and should be viewed/downloaded prior to that date.

Can I renew these items?

Renewal availability is determined by the lending library and may not be available for all items. Renewals may be denied if there is a hold or recall for another patron or the maximum number of renewals has been reached.

To renew items, log in to My Library Account.

Where do I return my items?

Physical items may be returned directly to any UW-Green Bay library or other UW library. If items are returned to another UW library, please email interloan@uwgb.edu to let us know.

Digital materials do not need to be returned as they will automatically expire after 30 days.

What if the items are lost or damaged?

Lost or damaged items are subject to replacement and other applicable fees levied by the lending library. For students, charges will be added to SIS. If items are returned after the charges have been added to SIS, refunds will not be given as most libraries will not issue reimbursements.

Can I request textbooks through resource sharing?

Textbooks can be requested, but there are several limitations. Many libraries do not purchase current textbooks, and if they do, they often reserve them for their own students. Resource sharing periods for books are typically short (about one month), and they can usually only be renewed once.
